Product accreditation

The NZ RLIC has developed a draft product accreditation programme for New Zealand rock lobsters in recognition of:

  • a changing world economy
  • improvements in fisheries management by countries competing with New Zealand lobster exports in world markets
  • consumer trends toward sustainably harvested natural resources.

The NZ RLIC draft addresses a greater range of management and conservation benchmarks than are contained in the Marine Stewardship Council eco label specifications.

Our recent investments in DNA sequencing on New Zealand lobster stocks have produced results which could be useful in terms of food security and traceability standards for New Zealand lobster exports.
